I`ve just bought this rather gorgeous Art Nouveau fireplace. It`s nice and small which will leave enough space around the sides and top for decorating the wall with mosaic tiling in a design I want to do. A Victorian one would have looked incongruous here and I like the design on this one. It`s still a bit early for the age of the property but I`ve made a compromise in the name of art.

Clandon Park is a Palladian stately home, now owned by the National Trust, near West Clandon in Surrey. It was created in about 1731 by Thomas, 2nd Baron Onslow. It was designed by the Venetian architect Giacomo Leoni and replaced an earlier Elizabethan building.

The two-storey Marble Hall is elaborately decorated with two carved marble fireplaces.
